Opel rescue becomes top priority



Berlin - In the discussions on state aid for the ailing car maker Opel Rüsselsheim is evidently a new impetus - the rescue is a top priority.
On Friday, met the new Economics Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU) with the EU head of Opel's parent, General Motors (GM), Carl-Peter Forster, Opel Managing Director Hans Demant, and the general works council head Klaus Franz
Forster had asked in November 2008 when Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) to a multi-billion guarantee for Opel, to ensure the liquidity of the company, given the problems of General Motors. Under discussion is a total volume of 1.8 billion euros.
At the same time Opel is also negotiating with the countries of North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia. Hesse had been announced for the company and the suppliers of the country is already a rescue package.
Meanwhile, North Rhine-Westphalia state premier Juergen Ruettgers (CDU tries) in contact with GM CEO Rick Wagoner. Ruettgers wants to meet him next week in Detroit. Opel in Rüsselsheim and deals in Bochum and Eisenach and Kaiserslautern 30,000 people.
